Scultura in raku realizzata in Sardegna, Oristano, presso il laboratorio di Margherita Pilloni.
L’opera mostra un vescovo seduto su una cattedra, con le braccia in croce, in attesa di venerazione e di devoti doni da custodire con gelosa sacralità. La scultura segue un filone di rappresentazioni imperniate su uomini di chiesa che con il loro contegno, moralmente discutibile e riprovevole, hanno concorso a “necrotizzare” nei secoli il Cristianesimo.
Le gambe a forma di triangolo con il vertice rivolto verso il basso e due depressioni sulla superficie indicano la discesa agli inferi. Il volto lacerato da una profonda croce evidenzia come una parvenza di fede possa inorpellare profondi malcostumi, smanie di potere che nulla hanno a che vedere con la fede e con Dio. Dimentichi della loro natura di essere umani bramano, all’ombra di cattedrali imponenti, l’esercizio divino. La croce che lacera il volto richiama la finestrella dei confessionali attraverso la quale l’individualismo del vescovo scruta le anime pie, ne studia le debolezze per poi piegarle alla propria volontà. Un’interiorità che nemmeno la forma riesce a rivelare e a caratterizzare.
La scultura vuole essere un affondo contro: chi ipocritamente crea dolore, sofferenza, illusione; chi evangelizza ma agisce in conflitto con ciò che predica; chi vestito di sacro crede di avere diritto a parlare in nome di Dio; chi adempiuti i precetti sacri continua a perpetrare i sette vizi capitali; chi maneggia testi sacri e sollevati al cielo ritualmente muove guerra “evangelizzatrice”; chi nei secoli ha distrutto, devastato, incendiato, rubato, convertito con forza alla propria fede; chi indossati abiti cerimoniali sfarzosi parla di povertà, misericordia e altruismo; chi leggendo queste cose pensa con disprezzo “non dice nulla di nuovo” e poi guardando con intelligenza la realtà riflette e ripensa “però niente è cambiato”. Una scultura contro la bigotteria di ogni religione.

Raku sculpture made in Sardinia, Oristano, in the laboratory of Margaret Pilloni.
The work shows a bishop sitting on a chair with his arms crossed, waiting for veneration and pious gifts to guard with jealous sacredness. The sculpture follows a string of performances focusing on clergymen who by their conduct, morally questionable and reprehensible, contributed to “necrosis” in centuries of Christianity.
The legs in the shape of inverted triangle pointing down and two depressions on the surface indicate the descent into hell. The face is scarred by a deep cross shows that a semblance of faith can disguise profound immorality, lust for power that have nothing to do with faith and with God Forget the nature of human beings crave the shade of majestic cathedrals, exercise divine. The cross recalls the ragged face of sectarian window through which the individualism of the pious Bishop peers, studies the weaknesses and then bend to their will. An interior that not even the shape can detect and characterize.
